How to Be Humble According to the Bible

Pride is something that everyone struggles with at some point or another. It can be tempting to think that we are better than others or that our accomplishments are all our own doing. But humility is a virtue that is highly prized in the Bible. In this blog post, we will look at what the Bible has to say about humility and how we can live a more humble life.

The Bible’s Definition of Humility
The first thing we need to understand is what humility actually is. The dictionary defines humility as “the quality or state of not thinking you are better than other people.” But the Bible gives us a slightly different definition. In Philippians 2:3, the Apostle Paul says, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.” So according to the Bible, humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is actually thinking of others as being more important than yourself.

Why Humility Is Important
Now that we have a better understanding of what humility is, let’s look at why it is so important. First of all, God Himself is humble (Isaiah 66:2). And He calls His people to be like Him (Ephesians 5:1). Additionally, humility will help us to avoid many of the pitfalls that pride can lead us into such as arrogance, judgmentalism, and a sense of entitlement. Finally, when we are humble, we are more likely to experience God’s blessing in our lives (James 4:6).

How to Become More Humble
So how can we become more humble?
Pray and ask God to help you develop humility
Make an effort to serve others instead of always looking for people to serve you
When you are wrong, admit it instead of making excuses
Try not to compare yourself with others
Give credit where credit is due instead of always wanting the credit for yourself

Humility is an important virtue that God calls His people to have. It is not thinking less of ourselves but rather thinking of others as being more important than ourselves. When we are humble, we avoid many of the pitfalls that pride can lead us into and we experience God’s blessing in our lives. If you struggle with pride, I encourage you to pray and ask God for help in developing humility. Additionally, make an effort to serve others and give credit where it is due. By doing these things, you will be well on your way to becoming a more humble person.
